Leiden University Green Office
The Green Office makes the university’s sustainability vision tangible in the everyday reality of its students and staff members, while critically assessing the university’s policy and communication on sustainability and providing their own ideas.
A student initiative lobbied for the establishment of the Green Office for many years. The student initiative felt that the university was not doing enough with regards to sustainability and that more should happen. After an extensive bottom-up lobby process – involving student research, different proposals, information evenings – the ambition to establish a Green Office was integrated into the university’s environmental policy. The Green Office was finally established in 2016.
As the graph below shows, the team consits of 7 student employees (paid 5 hours per week) and 1 staff coordinator (11 hours per week). The Green Office works with volunteers ad-hoc.
