The Sustainability Office aims to make sustainability a priority in decision making and to be a good example for students by successfully carrying out sustainability projects.
Between 2011 and 2015, the TU Kaiserslautern ran a project to document and analyse existing sustainability efforts at the university and to publish a first sustainability report. The Sustainability Office (Nachhaltigkeitsbüro) was established in 2016 to continue and expand these efforts, focusing on reporting, strategy development and joint projects in operations, education and community.
As the graph below shows, the team consits of 4 student employees (paid 5 hours per week) and 1 staff coordinator (10 hours per week). The Sustainability Office works with volunteers ad-hoc. The team is supported by the a professor of sustainabilty management and has a supervisory board.

Supported a student research project that led to the installation of 90 recycling bins
Integrated sustainability as priority in university’s Strategic Plan
Is working with the cafeteria to abolish single-use cups and introduce a university mug
