Green Office Gent
The Green Office works with the rest of the environmental department towards UGent becoming a locally and globally sustainable institution in its operations, research & education, and management.
The Sustainability Coordinator learned about the Green Office Model at a time when the university already had a sustainability vision, policy, report and advisory board. The sustainability governance system was well-established, but implementation was still a challenge. Based on the Green Office Model, they proposed a Sustainability Office to stimulate the daily implementation of the sustainability policy and act as a platform for existing initiatives. The Green Office Gent was then established in 2015.
As the graph below shows, the team consits of 6 student employees (paid 8 hours per week) and 2 staff coordinators (40 hours per week). The Green Office is integrated into the general sustainability governance of the university.
