How to finance your Green Office?
You want to finance your Green Office (GO) and wonder who could provide funding? Learn more in this post.
Not everybody has the power to distribute funding. It is important you identify and connect with the decision-makers who can. Existing GOs got funding from:
Executive Board: The Executive Board is the highest governing body of a university. The majority of GOs receives funding through them.
Committee: GOs also successfully applied for funding from committees on innovation, sustainability or quality of education.
Department: Facility Services or the Environmental / Sustainability Department have kicked-start GOs.
External funders: Three GOs were completely funded through an external funder. Two in the UK through the Students’ Green Fund, a one-off funding opportunity for student-led sustainability projects. Bologna Green Office is financed as part of a Horizon 2020 project. GOs are mainly successful in attracting project-based funding.
We suggest you first look for funding options within your organisation. Here it is very important that you talk to the Executive Board. If they aren’t interested in funding your GO, they might know somebody else who could fund it.
